ViroMed's comprehensive viral culture detects a wide range of viruses by combining conventional tube culture with shell vial culture and Direct Fluorescent Antibody (DFA) testing.

The specimen type submitted will determine which viruses are isolated and the testing methodologies used.

Test Request Forms, Results Reports & Invoices
When you submit a virology specimen to ViroMed and choose "Viral Culture" on the Isolation Test Request Form, be sure to also mark the type of specimen on the form.

Note that the test request form does not have an assigned test code for "Comprehensive Viral Culture." [You may wish to use the blank space beneath the "Comprehensive Viral Culture" line to indicate a particular virus that may be expected.]

Various specimen types are listed here, along with their respective test codes and testing methodologies.

When your specimen arrives at ViroMed (along with the test request form ordering "Viral Culture"), the laboratory will assign the test code appropriate to the type of specimen.

This information will then be reflected in your results report as well as on your invoice.

Selecting, Collecting & Transporting Specimens

As proper collection and transportation of specimens is critically important to the success of any subsequent laboratory examination, please note carefully the specimen and shipping requirements provided in the test listings in this section. See also "Collection and Transportation of Viral Specimens" and "Specimen Packaging and Transport."

Turnaround Times

Positive Results
Positive results are reported as soon as detected.

Negative Results
The turnaround time for negative results is dependent on the specimen, the virus, and the testing methodology. See the individual listing by specimen type.
